Creating a standard subscription selling option

A standard subscription selling option allows customers to pay automatically on a recurring schedule, with each payment aligned to an order or delivery.

Info
This guide walks you through creating a standard subscription plan in GoSimple and explains each available option so you can configure it correctly.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:

  • Connected a payment gateway

  • Synced your products to GoSimple

  • Decided that a standard subscription is the correct model for this product

If not, complete those steps first.

Where to create a subscription plan

From the GoSimple dashboard:

Selling options → Subscription plans → Create plan

This opens the Create Plan screen.

Step 1: Plan name

Internal subscription plan name

Enter a name for internal reference only.

  • This name is not visible to customers

  • Use a clear, descriptive name for your team

Examples:

  • Monthly Refill – Standard

  • Weekly Subscription – Core Product

This helps distinguish plans when managing subscriptions later.

Step 2: Subscription type

Select Standard subscription.

A standard subscription:

  • Charges customers automatically at a recurring interval

  • Creates an order for each successful payment

  • Continues until paused or cancelled

Info
Prepaid and instalment subscription types are coming soon.

Step 3: Widget options

These options control how the subscription appears on your product page.

Exclude one-time purchase option

  • Removes the one-time purchase option from the widget

  • Customers can only purchase via subscription

Use this if the product must always be subscribed to.

Group frequency options on widget

  • Combines multiple frequencies into a single dropdown

  • Keeps the product page cleaner when offering several intervals

Alert
Recommended when offering more than one frequency per selling option for a more concise widget display.

Show discount price at top of widget

  • Highlights the discounted subscription price

  • Displays the base price crossed out for comparison

Alert
Recommended if you offer a subscription discount.

Set priority of plan

  • Controls the display order of plans on the widget

  • Lower numbers appear higher

Alert
Useful if multiple subscription plans exist for the same product.

Step 4: Delivery options

These settings affect how delivery fees are handled for subscription orders.

Set flat delivery fee

  • Charges a fixed delivery fee per order

Flat delivery fee for each product quantity

  • Charges a delivery fee per product unit

Use these options only if your shipping logic requires it.
If unsure, leave both unchecked and rely on a third party integration, like BobGo.

Step 5: Advanced subscription options

Use Shopify product compare-at price

  • Calculates subscription pricing and discounts using the compare-at price

  • Useful when compare-at pricing is already configured in Shopify

Alert
Calculates subscription price and discount based on the compare-at price. If not enabled, the discount is based on the regular selling price.

Step 6: Subscriber portal options

These settings control what customers can do in the customer portal.

Info
The customer portal link is available to all customers who purchase a subscription product. The customer portal link gets sent in your order notes as well as from your GoSimple email notifications.

Skip a subscription

  • Allows customers to skip their next scheduled payment

Reschedule subscription

  • Allows customers to move the next charge date

Enabling these options reduces customer support requests and gives customers more control.

Save your plan

Once all options are configured:

  1. Review your settings

  2. Click Save

The subscription plan is now available to be assigned to products.

Step 7: Assign Products to the Subscription Plan

Once you click 'Save' on your selling option for the first time, the 'Assign Products' view will appear, allowing you to easily assign products to your subscription plan.

  1. Go through the products and select the checkbox to assign them to your subscription plan,
  1. Click 'Save Changes' once you have selected all the products you wish to assign to your selling option

Info
If a product is not showing on this page to be assigned to a subscription plan, then you need to re-sync your products.

What to do next

After creating a standard subscription selling option and assigning your products:

  • Review the product page widget

  • Test checkout in test mode

Each step is covered in its own guide.
